Firefox To Feature A Redesigned New Tab Page

by Vijaya Bhaskar on August 26, 2011

One of the missing elements in Firefox for all these years is a feature-rich new tab page. While opera and chrome display a new tab page with bookmarks, recently opened tabs Firefox still shows a dumb new tab page. Multiple requests came to Firefox stating to change the home page from about:home to a custom, non-Mozilla-hosted URL. In this sequence a “reignited” new tab page is developed displaying a speed dial.

This speed dial is going to feature from Firefox9.It displays 9-16 sites which can be deleted or added and also can be rearranged manually.

The following are some of the elements that the developers are seeing to put into the new tab page.

  • Load instantly
  • Not be so distracting as to take users mentally away from their intended task and into an unintended one
  • Can be configured entirely or disabled completely
  • Does not embarrass the user
Changes in the location bar design can be seen in the following images.

What do you feel on this Firefox upcoming redesign?
