Google Drive, Gmail, Picasa, and Google+ each give you storage space for free, to keep your files, email, and photos accessible from any device, anywhere. With the release of Google Drive, the web giant’s new cloud storage service, Google has changed its storage plans which effect Gmail and Picasa.

Until now we are having 7+ GB of storage for Gmail and 1GB free storage for Picasa. Whereas Google plus has unlimited storage for photos uploaded to it which are automatically resized to 2048 pixels and also videos up to 15 minutes in length are also free.Free Google storage space is specific to each product. Free storage from one product can’t be used by or transferred to another product.

But post Google Drive, the storage plans have slightly changed. Google Drive which has arrived with a 5GB free storage can host any types of files irrespective of other services. Thanks to the Google Drive which finally gave Gmail a perfect 10GB of space.

Old storage plans

  • 7+ GB in Gmail
  • 1 GB in Google Docs (uploaded files only)
  • 1 GB in Picasa
  • Unlimited in Google+

New storage plans

  • 5 GB in Google Drive
  • 1 GB in Picasa
  • Unlimited in Google+

As talking about the core real numbers, a Google user is now allocated a total of  16+ GB for free. You can have a look at your usage in Gmail, Picasa and the available storage spaces here.
